The 6-Minute Weekend Reset After a Week at the Desk
Issue 6 of the Desk Mobility Brief. During the week we have kept things short: quick breaks between calls, a morning warm-up, a shutdown routine and an afternoon energy stretch. The weekend gives you a little more time, so this issue is a slower full-body reset to undo some of the week's sitting.
1. Standing forward fold (1 minute). Stand with soft knees and fold forward from the hips, letting your arms and head hang. Sway gently and breathe.
2. Low lunge (1 minute 30 seconds). Step one foot forward and lower the back knee onto a cushion. Shift your hips forward gently until you feel the front of the back hip open. Hold for 45 seconds each side.
3. Seated hamstring stretch (1 minute). Sit with one leg straight and the other bent. Hinge forward from the hips over the straight leg, keeping the back long. Switch after 30 seconds.
4. Thread the needle (1 minute 30 seconds). On hands and knees, slide your right arm under your left, letting the right shoulder and temple rest on the floor. Hold for 45 seconds, then switch.
5. Lying rest (1 minute). Lie on your back with your knees bent and take a few slow breaths.
The idea for this week
Use the weekend to notice which areas felt tightest during the week. Those are worth an extra minute of attention next week.
Safety note
Keep everything gentle and within a comfortable range. Stop if anything causes sharp pain, numbness or dizziness, and check with a qualified health professional if you have an existing condition.
